Water is one of main substance for our lives in the face of this planet. We are able to survive without food in a couple of weeks, but without water we will die just in a couple of days. Everyone is hoping that the water should be treated as invaluable thing, used wisely and protected from any pollution. Yet   in fact, water always wasted, polluted and ill-treated. Almost half of world population, mostly in under-developing countries, suffered of fewer water supplies or polluted water supply. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are 2 million people now have risked highly of diarrhea disease that caused by water and food. The disease is the main source of more than 5 million children deaths every year in the world.

Water sources were polluted heavily with unprocessed industrial wastes or over-capacity used to be renewed. And if we don’t make any radical changes in our way to use the water, it might be someday water need particular processing prior use the water that the cost is beyond limitation of economic resources of most under-developed countries.

In order to aid people to provide the need of clean water, on February 19 until 23 2007 in Wisma Werdhapura, Sanur, were held a Biosand Filter Implementation Training conducted by CWAST (Canadian Non Government Organization) and Balifokus. PPLH Bali was one of the Bali’s participants along with other participants from Tangerang, Jogya, Surabaya, Mataram, Lombok and Tarakan.

It is expected that result of this training, the participant will be able to implement it in their own origins so that they will be able to aid people to have clean water facility. The water that come out of the BioSand Filter had had been tested in several countries and people can consume the water directly without further process, yet again, the attitude returned to the origin of the culture, boil the water first prior consume it or consume water directly from the drip.

BioSand filter will be very helpful if it implemented in the place that clean water facility is in the very minimum level both quality and quantity. The materials needed were easy to get such as: corrals, sandstones and sand. The procedure and the maintenance is too easy and even kid will be able to operate it easily. (Raka)
