The Westin Resort is located at Nusa Dua Bali.  On the 16th of May there was an environmental education activity held there.  The theme for the day was ‘My School is Clean and Beautiful and a Comfortable for My Learning’ .  Present on the day was 169 students from seven primary schools in Nusa Dua.  The Westin Resort was supported by PPLH Bali, Sunrise School and IDEP.

The opening speech by the General Manager was attempted in Indonesian.  It was hoped that this would help the students understand what the day was about so that they could create a good environment, one that is clean and beautiful so that many tourists will come.

Following his speech there was a performance by the students for the Sunrise School, coordinated by Miss Kayti.  They performed a short play and sang a song for the audience about creating a healthy environment and the uses of rubbish.

PPLH Bali and IDEP were asked to prepare a game to play.  We played a game with the students where they had to separate waste. It was hoped that this game would hlp the students understanding of the types of waste.

Despite the simplicity of this activity, the students were introduced to many significant issues in the area of environmental education.  It is hoped that their level of understanding and care for the environment has been increased.  (ami/nel)
