Desa Munggu is located in the Mengwi region and often experiences waste problems. This issue gained the attention of Ms. Suji, a lecturer at Udayana University, so she asked village staff to go to the Waste Management Depot’s at Sanur Kauh and Sanur Kaja. The purpose of the visit was to learn a little about self-supporting waste management systems that are being used by communities such as the ones that are already being used in Sanur which can be applied in Desa Munggu. Many questions were asked by the head of Desa Munggu and Ms. Suji about the waste management system as the Sanur Kaja Depot. Some of their questions concerned getting details about the workers at the Depot and how PPLH Bali supports them. They wanted to really understand the process starting from the establishment of the Depot itself to the waste management systems being used there now. The head of Desa Munggu and Ms. Suji have already developed a desire to manage waste much the same way as at Sanur Kaja although it their plans are still in its infancy. They then moved on to the Depot in Sanur Kauh because there are a few differences between the two Depots, for example there is a cutting machine at Sanur Kauh, the depot itself is larger, the composting method is different as well as some of the other systems used. After the head and secretary of Desa Sanur Kauh and workers at the Depot explained the importance of using an effective waste management system to the head of Desa Munggu and Ms. Suji, even if it is only on a small scale. (gusas/nel)
